# Surgical Bra, Post-Op Bra, Compression Bra - What's the Difference?
## Different names, same garment :) Whatever your surgeon calls it - a surgical bra, a post-op bra, a recovery bra, or a compression bra, the job is the same: gentle, zoned, gradient compression to manage swelling, support for healing tissue, and soft coverage that won't rub incisions.
What to look for in your compression bra:
**• Front closure** -makes dressing easier when arm movement is limited
**• Wire-free -** with no rough seams against recovering skin
**• Zoned, gradient compression** - support where you need it, softness where you don't
**• Skin-safe, breathable fabric** - To reduce irritation and keep sensitive, healing skin comfortable.

**What about "medical grade compression"?**
We want to be clear that, to our knowledge, there is no comprehensive or regulated compression value for "medical grade compression" - particularly in a compression bra.
For Class I Compression Garments – including bras – there is no compression value definition for “medical grade compression” (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Title 21). **Is a sports bra the same thing?**
No, most sports bras manage motion for an hour or two; a compression bra supports healing and movement all throughout your recovery and well after. **Do you really need one?**
Most surgeons recommend some version of gentle, consistent support after surgery. Always consult your medical professional with any compression questions you have specific to your recovery.
