# What Do I Wear After a Lumpectomy?
## A soft, wire-free, front-closing support or compression bra - worn day and night for at least the first week or two - with loose tops that open at the front. Always consult your medical professional with any compression questions you have specific to your recovery.
Surgery day and the first week have one rule: nothing goes over your head.
**Dress like everything is a door, not a tunnel:**
• button-up shirts and blouses
• zip-front hoodies and jackets
• a front-closing bra you can step into or zip on

**Do you need a compression bra after a lumpectomy?**
Most surgeons recommend some version of gentle, consistent support - they may call it a compression bra, a surgical bra, or just "a snug, supportive bra." A lumpectomy is smaller than a mastectomy, but it's still real surgery: there's an incision, there's swelling, and recovery involved.
**What about radiation?**
Many patients have radiation after a lumpectomy, and radiated skin gets tender. While it's healing: the softest, most breathable fabric you own, nothing that rubs or presses the treated area, and wire-free - always.
