What Should I Pack in a Mastectomy Recovery Kit?

A front-closing compression bra, loose button-front tops a size up, slip-on shoes - nothing that goes over your head. That one rule does more for your comfort than anything else you pack.

Here's the kit, from folks who've lived it:
• A front-closing, wire-free compression bra - often provided or approved by your surgeon, and the most-used item after surgery. Worn 24/7, it provides the gentle, gradient compression physicians recommend.
• Button-front or zip-front tops, a size up, in soft fabric.
• Slip-on shoes. Nothing to keep you bent over, nothing fiddly.
• Dry shampoo, a brush and Chapstick - it will be a few days before you can wash your hair. Trust us on this one.
• Optional for the ride home: a small pillow between the seatbelt and your chest.
• For sleep: a wedge pillow or a stack of pillows (you'll sleep propped, on your back, at first), plus a small pillow under each arm if it helps you settle.

If you're going home with drains:
• simply fasten with clip or pin to outer layer of your Hugger
• use a drain lanyard or clip (or a simple ribbon) to keep drains secure in the shower
• camisoles or tops with inside pockets, if you prefer the bulbs hidden
